Australian basketball star Giddey makes history with NBA debut

Sydney native becomes first Australian to play for Chicago Bulls

Joshua James Giddey, the son of Melbourne Tigers legend Warrick Giddey, has made Australian basketball history by becoming the first Australian to play for the Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The 19-year-old point guard was selected by the Bulls with the sixth overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, making him an instant multi-millionaire.

Giddey's debut for the Bulls came on October 20, 2022, in a pre-season game against the Milwaukee Bucks. He scored 10 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and dished out 6 assists in his first NBA game.

Giddey's impressive performance in his debut game has led to high expectations for the young Australian. He is expected to be a key player for the Bulls this season, and could potentially become one of the best players in the NBA.

Giddey's rise to the NBA

Giddey's journey to the NBA began in his hometown of Melbourne, Australia. He played for the Melbourne Tigers youth team before moving to the United States to play for the Adelaide 36ers in the National Basketball League (NBL).

Giddey quickly became one of the top players in the NBL, averaging 10.8 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game in his rookie season. He was named the NBL Rookie of the Year and was also selected to the All-NBL Second Team.

Giddey's impressive performance in the NBL led to him being drafted by the Oklahoma City Thunder with the sixth overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. He spent one season with the Thunder, averaging 12.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game. He was also named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team.

Giddey's trade to the Bulls came as a surprise to many, but it is a move that could benefit both the player and the team. The Bulls are a young and up-and-coming team, and Giddey could be a key part of their future success.
